Natural, Soft Glam or Full Glam Bridal Makeup: Which Bridal Look Is Right for You?
Choosing your bridal makeup can be quite overwhelming. There are so many different looks on Instagram and Pinterest that sometimes it can be hard to know what will actually suit you.
Do you want something really natural? A little more glam? Or maybe you love a full glam makeup look and want to go all out for your wedding day?
As a bridal makeup artist, I think the most important thing is that you still look and feel like you.
My signature bridal style is modern, timeless soft glam. I love creating beautiful, glowing skin, soft definition around the eyes and gorgeous lashes, while making sure the makeup feels comfortable and still looks like you.
But every bride is different, so let’s look at the different styles and what might work for you.
Natural Bridal Makeup

Natural bridal makeup doesn’t necessarily mean wearing hardly any makeup. It’s more about keeping everything soft, fresh and understated while enhancing your natural features.
Think beautiful skin, soft neutral eyes, a natural flush of blush, subtle lashes and a pretty nude or pink lip.
This is perfect if you don’t normally wear lots of makeup and want to feel like yourself on your wedding day, just a more polished version.
I always think your wedding day isn’t the time to suddenly wear a completely different style of makeup if it isn’t something you’re comfortable with.
You want to look back at your photographs years from now and still recognise yourself.
Soft Glam Bridal Makeup

Soft glam is my signature bridal makeup style and probably the look I create most often for my brides.
It’s that perfect middle ground between natural and full glam.
You still get beautiful, soft and timeless makeup, but with more definition through the eyes, lashes and complexion so that your makeup really shows up in your wedding photographs.
I love using soft neutral, pinky and champagne tones, glowing skin, carefully placed blush and customised lashes to bring everything together.
Soft glam can also be adapted so it works for you. Some brides may want a slightly more natural version, while others want more definition and a fuller lash.
This is why I don’t believe in having one exact bridal makeup look that I use on everyone. Your makeup should be created around your features, your colouring and, most importantly, what makes you feel amazing.
Full Glam Bridal Makeup

If you’re someone who loves makeup and normally enjoys a more glamorous look, then there’s absolutely no reason why you can’t have that on your wedding day.
Full glam bridal makeup can include more defined eyes, stronger lashes, a more sculpted complexion and a little more intensity overall.
But full glam doesn’t have to mean heavy or overdone.
I still like to keep bridal makeup looking elegant and beautiful rather than making it look like evening or party makeup. It’s about getting the balance right so that everything works together.
If you’re used to wearing a full glam makeup look, you may actually feel much more like yourself with a little more definition on your wedding day.
So Which Bridal Makeup Look Is Right for You?
There really isn’t a right or wrong answer.
Your bridal makeup should be based on you.
Think about how you normally wear your makeup, what you feel comfortable in and what you want your makeup to look like when you see yourself in the mirror.
Your dress, hairstyle, jewellery and even your wedding venue can also help influence the final look.
For example, you might love a really soft and natural makeup look for a relaxed countryside wedding, while another bride might want something more defined for a glamorous city wedding.
But ultimately, it’s about what makes you feel confident.

Don’t Just Copy a Pinterest Picture
I love it when brides bring me pictures of makeup they have saved. It gives me a really good idea of what they like.
But I don’t believe in simply copying a makeup look from someone else’s face.
We all have different eye shapes, skin types, colouring and features, so the same makeup won’t necessarily look the same on everyone.
Instead, we can look at what you love about the picture.
Maybe it’s the soft pink eyeshadow, the glowing skin, the lashes or the way the eyes have been defined.
I can then adapt those elements to create something that works beautifully for you.

Your Makeup Should Last as Well as Look Beautiful
Whatever style you choose, your bridal makeup needs to work hard.
Your wedding day is a long day. There will probably be happy tears, hugs, photographs, food, drinks and lots of dancing!
That’s why I don’t just think about how your makeup looks when you leave the room. It needs to be comfortable, photograph beautifully and last through all those special moments too.
